For our October meeting, guest speaker, Dr. Randall Longenecker, will discuss birth in Ohio Amish communities. For 30 years, he worked with his Amish patients, as well as lay and direct entry midwives, to create affordable alternatives to the traditional schedule and setting of perinatal care – simplified payment packages, group visits, shared care, home birth backup, low-intervention hospital births, and “educational” ultrasounds. He will share stories and take questions as to how lessons learned might apply in our community. Wednesday, October 28th, 7-8:30 at the Athens Public Library. Children welcome.
