We have a lovely month of events ahead of us. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month and we have a special afternoon planned to honor those families who have experienced the loss of a child. All are welcome and please feel free to share the details with others. Please see below for more about our Loss Ceremony, as well as for information about our monthly meeting.
For our October monthly meeting, we are excited to host an evening of learning about adoption and fostering in our area. If you’ve been a foster parent or have adopted children of your own we would love to have you join us and share your experiences.

CEREMONY HONORING PREGNANCY & INFANT LOSS
Sunday, October 16th at 3:00pm
Athens Community Center Playground
701 East State St. Athens, OH
The Birth Circle will hold a ceremony at the Athens Community Center’s “Ribbon Tree,” planted near the playground in April of this year as a memorial to honor and celebrate the short lives of babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth or in infancy. This year’s ceremony will include readings and a time of sharing, as well as time to tie a ribbon of your choice on the tree. The event is open to the public, and children are welcome to attend. If parents are unable to attend the ceremony but would like their child’s name or due date spoken, or a particular poem or prayer read, they can contact Claudia or Julia at athensbirthcircle@gmail.com or 740-652-6262.

ADOPTION AND FOSTERING OPTIONS IN ATHENS COUNTY

This month we welcome Tanja Kuhre, the Athens County Children Services Foster Parent Recruiter/Trainer. She will speak with us about fostering and adopting in our region. If you have ever wondered how to become a foster parent, or have questions about adopting children from our area, she is happy to share her knowledge with you, so please plan to join us. Families who have experience with fostering and those who have gone through the adoption process are encouraged to come and share your journey. We’ll see you there!

JIVE! 2016
Jive! is a fantastic event thanks to all of our volunteers, and you could be one of them! Believe it or not this fun, family New Year’s Eve event is right around the corner! OCTOBER LOSS SUPPORT GROUP
Thursday, October 6th

Central Avenue Church, 73 Central Ave., Athens
If you are in need of support because of a pregnancy loss or the loss of your child, you are welcome to join us every first Thursday of the month for this support group. These meetings are free and facilitated by a professional social worker. All family members, such as grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, as well as friends are welcome. Childcare is provided.
