Nestled in the heart of Athens, the Athens Birth Circle has found its new haven: The Nest on Columbus Road. This cozy sanctuary serves as more than just a physical location; it symbolizes a nurturing hub for the local parenting community. For a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families through the transformative journey of childbirth and beyond, having a dedicated space like The Nest is paramount. It offers a sense of belonging and stability, providing a reliable venue for meetings, workshops, and gatherings where parents can connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources. It also provides a safe space for young children to play, explore, and grow.
As we begin 2022, and look forward to the celebration of our 20th Anniversary in May, we are dreaming BIG! As you know, we have traditionally operated out of the public library and other public spaces and this year we are working toward establishing a permanent physical location! This space will house our operations and enable us to expand our educational and community programing while establishing a consistent safe place for families to gather together and to connect with local services and providers such as doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, and dieticians that can help each family improve outcomes for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. In addition to our planned educational presentations, prenatal/postpartum yoga classes, and educational and support groups for parents, we plan to offer consistent hours for the meeting space to be informally open with a nice play area for babies and toddlers where their parents can connect and support each other socially. We are excited that Ebb & Flow Lactation and Laughing Moon Midwifery will also have offices in the same space, and we hope to be able to provide space for providers such as doulas, dieticians, and childbirth educators who may only need part time or special event space. Our goal is to make this a space that feels authentically welcoming to all families at every phase of the journey to and through parenthood.
In a world where the demands of modern life can often leave us feeling isolated, having a physical space dedicated to fostering community and support is nothing short of essential. The Nest isn’t just a building; it’s a testament to the commitment of the Athens Birth Circle in nurturing a vibrant and resilient parenting community.
